To door or not to door

Do you folks really get good use out of the doors on your tarp? If you don't use them how do you tie them off? I'm intrigued by the warbonnet superfly and the winterdream by UGQ. So what sold you on getting the doors and have you found them to be effective for that use?

Wind and rain blocking. I tie them to the opposing D-ring to close them. Or a stake, or a tree. To tie them open, I had pull-tie-outs and just tie them open to those.

After having a tarp with doors, I'd never go back to one without. So many different set up options. Love Em...

Sorry but I don't get what you mean by setup options. Did you mean the placement of the door to stop rain and all that?

I have a Superfly and use it for winter and canoe camping. The doors just add more protection from the elements if needed. In the summer when backpacking I use a tarp without doors to save a little weight and bulk since its not as critical to be so enclosed.

Here on a canoe trip I closed the doors because the wind had a tendency to change directions

Here you can see I extended the door on the side facing the wind but still have one door closed so as to not catch any wind. The wind was always coming from the same direction.

I use a OES Deluxe with the 2QZQ door mod. I purchased it used/new. What sold me is simply greater protection. It also expands site selection possibilities to a degree.

Doors really provide a lot of weather protection, not to mention warmth. If you can afford it, the HG 4S or Winter Palace, or Zpacks Hammock Tarp with doors are the lightest tarps you can get with doors.
