    My wife and I bought a "matrimonial" size Mayan hammock in the Yucaton on our honeymoon trip in the mid nineties. We put it in a box in our apartment in Brooklyn when we got back and we've never seen it since.

    ::big sigh::

    I keep hoping I will find that box somewhere but I'm about to give up hope.

    I have one of the Byers "Brazilian" hammocks for indoor. While not entirely woven in the Mayan style ( More of a warp and weft type cotton cloth) it is VERY nice to lay in!
    I use it indoors, maybe temporary use on the deck

    I'm not sure if anyone is following this thread, but I thought you might be interested in this post I made last week on making a Mayan hammock, from loom to clew.

    I was at the FLH3, and had a chance to test out busan321's big hammock. It is huge. The best part is that it was so very comfortable to lay in. No, I won't carry one for regular trail use, but for other uses, they rock.

    I just ordered one from seaside hammocks. There are way cheaper out there but the folks there were prompt and helpful with all of my questions. Plus they're local... so, yeah

    Should be getting here tomorrow or Wednesday since they're in my same delivery area (man it's too bad they don't have an actual storefront), then I get to test out my frankenstand. I'm a bit nervous it'll fall apart on first sit...

    Went with their 'XX Grande' version which is over 10' wide. Hoping it'll hold my husband and I since we are able to fit somewhat tightly in a 5' wide hammock.

    I'll try to post video. I'm sure it'll be hilarious XD

    dejoha -- that's really cool! Thanks for posting that!

    I hung a Mayan in my classroom. I teach history and most believe Mayans came up with the hammock so I wanted to be authentic. It is super comfy!

    O. M. G.

    This thing is HUGE. Haven't gotten the eye hooks in the stand yet to try it out, but .... HUGE o.O

    *edit* And we have lift-off! Didn't take video as we had to de-pants to get in (buttons) but the stand only rocked with the unevenness of the floor. Otherwise stand seems to work! Head-to-foot and at a slight diagonal we made two perfect hammocks out of the one

    Odd thing though: it kinda feels like the whole thing is made of the same material, while it was supposed to be cotton on the weave and nylon on the arms. Is there an easy way to know what it's made from? I was imagining yarn like the soft yarn I would knit with... this is more like thin paracord?

    Take a pocket knife with you in case you need to cut your way out

    I have a huuuuge Mayan I use in my backyard. It's so deep it feels like I can't make it out sometimes.
