    Keeping Whoopies on toggles

Little tip I picked up while setting up my hammock.

Once looping the whoopie around the toggled larkshead and adjusting sag, clip the whoopie at the base of the toggle with a clothespin. Viola! no more slipping off the pegs.

I like the small plastic ones, they're pretty lightweight and water cant do much to them. I would be really interested in finding some made out of lightweight aluminum/ti.

I use a light weight carabiner... Attach my marlin spike hitch to the flat side opposite the gate... Then on the knot not the toggle, then clip the whoopie into carabiner... No slipping and plus carabiners are always nice to have...

Nice picture but wouldn't it be more secure just using the carabiner to clip the whoopie onto the webbing? I thought that the MSH was to save the weight of a crab or provide adjustability but you've got that with the whoopie anyway

That's one of those $1 carabiners from walmart... Not climbing rated... Working load of 150 or something like that... I am not ultralight and carabiners have enough uses that I keep those two with my tablecloth hammock...

It's not for everyone, but it works for me...

You can also girth hitch your whoopie behind the marlin spike hitch and toggle.

Doesn't that eliminate the adjustibility of the whoopie?

If you use whoopie hooks or soft shackles you can flip the whoopie and put the fixed eye on the msh. Still have adjustability and no slippage.

+1 for the mini 'biner method. I've been using them to attach my Camelbak to my main pack for a while now, and gave it a go with them to see if I could avoid carrying anything extra. Keeps the whoopie on the knot pretty well so far!

    Exactly.

The whoopie is flipped around and the adjustment happens at the hammock instead of at the tree.

No adjustability lost and no whoopie slippage.

Thanks. I wasn't picturing it in my head. Now I remember Prof. Hammock mentioning Dutch using this method and I had actually planned on trying it out (even ordered the hooks).
