Thanks, this fabric requires more finesse them I’m used to but I’ll try to maintain the usual output.

I hope to see some pictures of the work in progress and some usage notes.
    Thanks for sharing your pillow.

I’ll post pics as I go, some here but all in the Flickr Set. I started to make some progress yesterday but hit a “Packing Snow” delay when I was press-ganged into building “Fort Waterloo” in the yard…well not really “press-ganged”, playing in the snow is something you never really grow out of!

    Pretty awesome fort there!

Really like the idea of testing with a pillow - mulituse! How does that Weller work for you cutting the fabric? Mind if I ask what you're cutting on as well?

Classic “Molly Moment” last night! When we finished the fort, I told Molly to start making snowballs…”why”…because we’ve finished our fortifications, time to expand the empire! We’re going over that Privacy Fence, hand me the snow shovel and cover the rear! “Shut up Dad, even if you made it over the fence Mr. Harris would beat you with the shovel, besides, there isn’t enough snow left to cover your rear”, I had no response!

Since the WR-II project, I’ve been using the soldering gun to cut everything synthetic! It melts the edge so there’s no fraying (clear cuts!). It’s also more precise with the templates (I make templates for anything I plan to repeat). At first I tried using a 25w pen with no success but the Weller is 140w and cuts quick! The surface is 2” by 4’ Masonite panels from Home Depot, they don’t last long but they’re cheap and easy to replace.

    I'd have no response either.

Now that people are saying the opposite of what I was told I'm very interested in seeing how this turns out. How much did that pillow weigh? I'm thinking about making one to get my feet wet working with down.

I wouldn’t say it’s the opposite; the fabric isn’t 100% down proof, its close but tufts (not full feathers) did make their way through the weave at first, its more of a "scale" then "yes/no". By proceeding with Nobul1, I’m accepting the margin of potential “escapees”, if I were selling the quilt, the end user may find the margin unacceptable and return the gear. Nobul2’s additional coating would reduce the risk of “floaters” and produce better retail product. In short….when you’re making your own gear you don’t need to worry about a return policy.

The pillow only has half an ounce of 950+ in it, for its size it should have about 2oz or so. I will weigh and measure it tonight though.

    Time for the first “Weigh-In”

Finally got some time to work on the shell and managed to get it to the “stuffing” point this afternoon! Before we move on to the “Down Chaos” stage I put the shell on the scale….&…The Nobul Beast (pre feathers) weighs in at…4.2oz.

Now it’s time to go weigh out the 950+ and bag it (.5oz per baffle @12), this is about as fun as Dental surgery but the price one pays for choosing the rocky path of DIY !
