What is a good sleeping bag for under $80? Do you recommend rectangular or mummy? If your using an underpad only, what temp range of a bag would you recommend for spring and fall?

I found some nice Slumberjack bags at my local Gander Mtn last year for WAY less than $80.
REI Super Clearance starts january 9 - an extra 50% off all clearance items whose price ends with .83
You might want to wait a week and see what they've got. I have picked up some SERIOUS bargains during super clearance and plan to hit their website the second the sale goes live.
Good ideas on the bag, but if you're oing to get one, definitely go with a mummy style bag. A rectangular bag may give a little more room, but it's difficult to keep warm. With a mummy bag, you have a hood and can trap in a lot of that heat your body gives off to keep you warm.

Definitely go with a mummy bag. I got a synthetic one at Dicks sporting goods for @ $70. I have gone down to 32 degrees with it and an inflatable pad.

It isn't for hiking really, (kinda heavy), but I got myself a thick mummy bag from the local army surplus store for 25 bucks, took it home, threw it in the washer came out nice, then went and hung out that weekend, low was reported as 28 degrees and I was toasty warm, didn't even notice that it was at all cold outside.
You could probably get enough materials for about $80 to make a good quilt, if you're into the DIY thing. Easier to use in the hammock, and lighter in the pack.
