    Hammock camping in South Carolina

    Hey All,
It's been a while since I've checked in. In the meantime I've moved from Flagstaff, Arizona to Charleston, SC. I've been spending most of my time at the beach but now I'm getting the itch to go camping. I literally know nothing about the camping areas of South Carolina. I know I could go off into the state forests but I'm looking for more of a developed state park or national forest campground that is hammock friendly. I wouldn't mind driving a few hours if that means we could get into a little elevation. The low country is beautiful but I wouldn't mind seeing a hill or two. I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

Well, anywhere up my way is hammock friendly in my experience. Camping in our state parks does require paying for a site though.

Come to the northwestern corner of the state.
You'll find plenty of trip reports here on Jones Gap State Park, the Chattooga River near Burrell's Ford, and the Foothills Trail. Jones Gap will cost you about $16 per night. The others are free.

Drive down to Hunting Island. I think some of the sites there have hangable trees.

All of the SC state parks are hammock friendly. So long as you use tree straps. Rev is planning a hang in September called the fall sprawl at santee state park.

How about Congaree National Park (and it is FREE and Hammock friendly)?

I was there on July 3rd. Didn't spend the night (accident with powerade) but did set up:
