So far from what i have seen inflatable pads dont seem like a good idea. They weight more than CCF ( i dont understand why?Is the material inside the pad that is responsible for the auto-inflation?I dont know how auto-inflation pads work really).

They also are more slippery, worse weight/warmth ratio, they can get damaged/pierced/,they cant get cut in DYI/Custom dimensions. Also more expensive.

The only advantage over CCF seems to be less condensation from sweat, and less package volume.Probably not enough.
If you want something more than cheap CCF,rather go quilt i 'd say.

The low temp hasn't been below 60 around here since mid May. My 6' long 1/8" CCF pad with 6" shoulder extensions is my warm weather choice for use in my DL hammock. Weighs 7.5 oz. and rolls up 4" in diameter to stow in the straps on my pack.

If I think it will go lower than 60, I carry my IXUQ AND a 55" long 1/8" CCF pad (3.5 oz).

If I think it is going lower than 45, I swap the IXUQ for my Climashield Apex 7.5 UQ and also use the shorter CCF pad - probably doubled over.

For temps below freezing, I am finishing up a winter down quilt using a shell from Underquilts.com and I will be using a 24" square 3/8" CCF pad with that too.

The pads stick up through the access opening in the foot area of the hammock and provide a little extra protection when my feet press against the side of the hammock and compress the TQ insulation. Noticeably warmer feet!

I have two Thermarest pads from my ground dwelling days. I've watched Shug's videos, tried 'em fully inflated, half inflated, barely inflated - just don't seem to work for me. Can't get comfortable with either of them in any of my hammocks.

Why do pads get a bad rap?

Where did you score 1/8 inch CCF?

I get mine from GG (Gossamer Gear) http://gossamergear.com/sleeping.html the stuff is is great. Not rigid at all, almost like a cloth. and at $16 bucks a roll you can grab two and make some nice customs pads. I use Tyvek tape http://www.amazon.com/Tyvek-Sheathin...rds=tyvek+tape to join them when needed.

Thanks for the reply. I'm actually looking for something rigid like Walmart blue CCF.

You can try their extra wide 1/4". They carry it just for us hammock people. It is much more rigid than the 1/8". (39 x 59 x 1/4 in)

From Lawson - perhaps his Insulite isn't what you would call CCF - at any rate he doesn't have any more.

A Thermarest in a ENO SPE works OK for me. The SPE really helps hold the pad in place from top to bottom.

That evazote looks great. It's a shame GG don't ship the 1/8" pads abroad.

I've not found a retailer here in the uk, but the price for a 80" x 40" sheet is about $20 from wholesale, with a minimum order of $160.

If there are any UK hangers who would like to get hold of some, I'd be interested in splitting the costs.

Anyone know what evazote GG use for their pads? 50 or 30 (it's a density measurement I think).
