Got a whole bunch of down, how should I use it?

Hey all, I just recently converted one of my down sleeping bags into an underquilt. I started removing the down from the parts I cut off the bag and holy crap! I was able to keep it mostly contained but it seems like there was a lot of overstuffing in there. It seems as though there was too much down in each of the compartments. The down is nearly doubled in volume from what I took it out of.

This is half of my leftover down that I have.

I'm not sure of the weight or fill power but the sleeping bag was from the 70s or possibly earlier.

I'm thinking of possibly a topquilt or some down booties or hat...
Any suggestions? And possibly direct me to a thread with plans.

That's funny. I just started the same exact thread. Except my down is from a pillow.

I say with that much down, try your hand on making a top quilt. If you don't have enough down for a cold temp quilt, you can always make a summer sew-thru baffled quilt.

I think TQ would be the way to go.

This is kinda what I was thinking, I don't think I've got the thread injector skills to do all the baffles needed for a cold weather quilt... With a sewn through quilt do you use anything between top and bottom shells to strengthen those seams? Or just ripstop w/nothing in between?
Anyone happen to know if there's a thread here with some instructions?

Depending on the amount of down you ended up with, a quilt of some sort would be the way to go. My next big down project will be a full length, 0*F underquilt. Soon I hope, before it gets too warm to use.

also - Don't forget to take plenty of pictures of making and using what ever you make.
