I'm reading this thinking this totally cool. My son is sitting beside me reading a book. Will he ever see this post? Not in a million years.

I need to do this one of these days. I need much sturdier trees than I did when I was 8 though.

There was some conversation with someone getting gear together to try something like this over on Facebook. One of they guys mentioned New Tribe which is a group all about hanging in the trees.

You should come over and hang in WI. Look up the Cathedral Pines as well as the Argonne Experimental Forest area. Both of them are in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The MacArthur Pine was in the experimental forest area on Giant Pine Rd north of Hiles.

For some reason I cann't sleep as comfortably in my ENO single as well as I used to, but I don't want to go back to ground hugging. The portaledge system may be worth looking into.

Looks like fun. Thanks for the info. Don't know if I will ever sleep that high in a tree but you never know.

Way to think outside the box. I can't help looking out the window at the neighbors old oak tree, with it massive branches and think this idea would work very well... What would the neighbors think.......

The fact that you hammock camp in the tree tops is awesome , I always enjoy your pics.
But I am afraid of heights so therefore would never try that,

What kind of deflection do you get at the high hights? Also, when you are tied to four parts of the tree it seems like you would be getting swaying motion on all three axis. Is it harder to sleep because of this up there?

It's funny, I tell people that is the main reason for the hammock, ZOMBIES. Just hide away up in the trees until they find Otis & Shane trying to run away. Poor Otis, Shane knew the old saying about out running a bear, poor Otis...
