For me personally, I wouldnt worry about which is stronger because both will be sufficient strength for its purpose. I doubt the force being applied to the straps will be enough to cause a failure point at a properly sewn loop or a knot in the strap. I would, however, recommend just sewing a loop on the strap and using it that way. It cuts down on weight and it simplifies your system.

Thanks for all the great replies everybody

I just love how "into it" everybody gets...love it.

I most certainly am over thinking my suspension system too much...I've been trying to work out the kinks of my own style of rig...its almost there...and it will be awesome.

Over thinking it is half the fun for me

Im with you on this. Designing your own setup is where all the fun is. I have been trying out a few different types that members here have shared and had a blast doing it. In the end, I always keep coming back to the original simple setup which is just some straps and cinch rings.

You're going to get enough answers to this question to hold you into next week.

Just look at some commercially made ratchet straps (good ones!), and make yours look like theirs.

While I agree with everyone that sewn loops are the way to go, I will say that a water knot may actually be stronger. I was thinking about this myself not long ago, and came up with a small loop at the end of the line tied via a water knot (this is a knot specifically designed for webbing, climbers use it when they tie their anchors, so I assume it is extremely strong although I have no link to any research about it...) The cool part is the small amount of excess can be sewn down with a pattern or embroidery. Could be neat for a vendor to use this method to add style. But still, a knot is slightly heavier and completely overkill unnecessary.
