    New guy hangin' in Oregon

    Hello everyone,
I had been reading and researching backcamping hammocks for a couple of months when suddenly a Hennessey Hammock and a copy of "The Ultimate Hang" by Derek Hansen showed up under the christmas tree! Of course I couldn't wait until spring to try it out so my first official overnight hang was on January 1st in my backyard in 25 degree weather. Amazingly comfortable and surprisingly warm in my 0 degree Big Agnes bag/pad combo especially after reading about 'cold butt syndrome' with hammocks. I'm totally sold on hammocks now as my 4 season, solo shelter!
I enjoy lightweight backpacking, cycling, and motorcycling year round, and snowboarding and not-too-intense mountaineering in the winter. Really happy this forum exists and hoping to learn alot from the veteran hammockers.

I am very interested in that. I was hoping there would be room for one more. I'll respond to that post shortly. Thanks!

Welcome from the Mile High City!

The Big Agnes System is a nice, easy entry into hammocks, without having to buy more expensive quilts (at least initially, they're still very much worth getting) or fighting with existing gear. It helps keep you on your pad and makes moving around inside a sleeping bag easier.

I've been a long time fan of the Big Agnes system for ground camping. Since I already own a few of the bags I thought i'd try them in the hammock. Good so far, but I also like what I'm reading about under quilts : )

Even though you get very little rain up there in Oregon, its never to early to start checking out tarp threads/stickys. Let the fun begin.

Welcome to the forums from Indiana.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."
