Even if I don't always agree with everything in one's approach, I do like seeing how other folks go about doin' stuff. It always gets my little grey cells a'bubblin' on possibilities. I will then steal... erm... borrow and build upon the good stuff and discard what doesn't make sense for me.

Good stuff there. Thanks for posting that.

    Totally agree with you there!

Even though I'm still a noob here on the forums and to hanging, instead of looking at all the mistakes (ok, I didn't say I couldn't be a snob....rope and those s links...crazy or I've been taught well ) I think that these ideas are for a survival approach if you HAD to hang this way in the cold. At least that was my take on the video. Never seen this guy before. And I will go look at the rest of the vids for ideas!

    Amen!

We also need to keep in mind that he's about survival and multifunctioning of gear. I have a lot of respect for his knowledge. He's not a weekend hammocker and in a pinch, if I had his equipment I'd use said equipment. Can, I learn a lot from you all? I already have and will continue to soak up that knowledge.

Interesting but I would not want to carry his pack. ;-) I also don't think the rope alone will fly in the park system.

Luckily, you would have plenty of bark to start your fire with

I like me some Dual Survivor, but being one of the poorer "common man", I still wouldn't use a rope that size or S hook that large. Of course, it's flat where I'm at and wouldn't need a climbing rope.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

I think this might be better as well. I've tried what is basically single sided reflectix between the hammock layers, with considerable condensation. My part of the world can get quite humid.

I like his rope use. When I take a couple of friends on steep country etc. I will carry 60-100ft of rope just for those special moments. So I can see the logic of making use of it. In my mind, it wouldnt hurt for him to carry 2x 2ft x 2in strap for the back of the tree...1 or 2 oz?

Maybe if we call it the Whoopie Whopper....or Supersize me Whoopie-style, then it will catch on....maybe......

Canterbury is a thinker-I guarantee he's watched some of our vids, probably homed in on Shugs channel several times. I don't mind his approach so much but I'd hang with the hippie if given the choice.

I may not agree with his methods, but I can't deny his results either. And I'm with MM I'd hang with the hippie any day.

I especially enjoyed the part about his friend that hangs his hammock completely taught. Must be some strong materials to withstand that kind of force. Not to mention that the diagonal lay is out of the question at that point. lol
