I have a golite breeze that's light and has tons of room. If you need another pack to use just let me know and I will pack it..

With the filter it will help if you use activated charcoal. The filters will not take the orders and tastes away...You can always stash some clean water on the trail or at the parking sites. I plan on bringing extra water and will probably make a trip back to my truck Sat or stash it on one of the forest roads close to the trail if I can get to them early Friday.
Is it the weekend yet?
I'll be bringing 4 liters of water and my filter. I'll also have water in the car so I can hike back out and refill if I need to. 4 Liters will usually last me the weekend (depending on the temp)
(I use recycled soda 2 liter bottles...they work great and when they are empty they crush down pretty small)
If you ain't havin' fun, you're doin' it wrong
Certainly, if you have the room and don't mind. I am hoping our order comes in, also, it is good to discipline yourself to bringing a smaller amount of items.
The charcoal makes sense. We were also going to bring some extra water and stash in the car; just also using this as a test bed for some of this other gear I can't seem to get enough of...
Thanks

OK,
Here is a link to the post with some photos of our afternoon trial run:

I give it a qualified success, and we are coming to the Sam Houston National Forest come heck or high water. (what's water?)
We are still working on the food, and gear pack out. You know, I may just need to send a teenager on a couple of trips back and forth to the car to get everything
Being 200 yds from the house takes some of the risk out of the endeavor. We will definitely have a blast on this trip, and gain multiple experience points
Yep, Sarge, there are some trees here in West Texas. It's amazing what hanging potentials you see when you have some kids and want to get them outside,

It'll just be me coming from Aggieland. Texas longhorns decided to pass on the hiking.
I plan to head out around noon Friday. ETA will depend on which plan we end up following.
Unfortunately I can only do Friday night and Saturday until after lunch but I'm still looking forward to this a lot.
Any guestimate on when folks plan on hitting the trail?
Spaceweaseal is leaving his abode NLT 1000, which puts him at the trailhead at +/- 1100. I may or may not be with him if its Plan A (there's a more direct route from my house to the trailhead). If its Plan B we'll be riding together.
Space weasel should be fine on packs by wednesday.
Temps during the day and the night look good:

If the forecast holds, my UQ worries will vanish. Having trouble under 45*.
Hopefully, the chance for rain will keep them from doing a burn.
Come on Friday!
OH--
And I shed another 5 oz from the pack.
Sweetie bought me a new camera for my birthday
I turned 60 today.
I lived like I was supposed to die before I turned 30. Unfortunately, I lived that way until I turned 37.
