Wally World CCF pad rolls up

Hi everyone. Has anyone experienced problems with a cheap CCF pad not staying flat? It seems like they always "want" to roll up since they are stored that way. Is it possible to get a CCF pad that is a little less rigid than the cheap blue ones? Any ideas as to how to prevent one from rolling up before you can even get in your hammock?

They soften and lay flat easier with use. Also if you roll it up the opposite way each time it will break in faster. Although if you don't want to deal with it at all you could pick up a Z pad for around $40 from REI.

Otherwise save you pennies for a nice down UQ.

Roll it up in the opposite direction. It evens it out.

When you unroll it, re-roll it the other way, then unroll and put in your hammock sleeve. Climb in and take a nap.

I also store mine flat at home and put boxes on the ends to keep it that way.

I use the roll to my advantage. As I am not yet crafty enough to diy, or have the funds for uq's I have quit enjoyed my us army ccf. I usually unroll the ccf and put it in upside down ( so the bend is up. I then put my clothes for the next day in the end part. This creates a bump which enhances my pillow. Its stays put pretty good as long as you aren't getting in and out a lot.

Interesting idea miyanc. You still use an actual pillow right? Or are you using the pad as your pillow.

I originally used a "solid" blue CCF pad too. After a few time of fighting the curl I bought a CCF pad fro. Wally world that is (for want of a better term) textured. It is much more pliable and user friendly. I think it was $14 not the usual $7. It works really well and is just as warm as the solid CCF.

    YMMV

My first season I used one.

Like DuctTape, I rolled it out (curl down) and then slipped it in between the two layers of my double layer hammock. The only problem was I got cold shoulders where my shoulders were wider than the pad.

Some people cut them and then duct tape them next to each other for a custom profiled pad. Say 12"x25" taped to 35"x25", taped to 25"x25". A little awkward for backpacking, but it works well for car camping.
