I have never had a hammock fail but I have had the 4x4 post I was hanging from break and several times webbing slip thru the cinch buckles and deposit me on the ground.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
Yep. My suspension line snapped and land right on my back.
Chris
I picked up a cheap $25 dollar hammock from Wal-mart, and decided to replace the cheap rope and carabiners at the ends. I can't remember why but I tied a different knot than I usually do. I brought my wife outside to show off my work, I was laying in it for about 5 minutes before the knot slipped and dropped me on the ground. Fortunately I was only about a foot off the ground and landed on soft grass, she had a good laugh.
not yet.. but fingers are crossed that these dynaglide whoopies hold up..
Fell down once, so far. I just installed whoopies and forgot the sage advice of "milk the bury". I pulled the hammock open, one leg up and started shifting my weight to lay and down I went. In front of my wife and sister-in-law. They had a good laugh.
Twice. Once was user error when I sat in the underquilt instead of the hammock and the other time my HH suspension broke when my tree fell over.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!
I remember the tree incident--I'm surprised (but delighted) you're still with us
You're gonna need a bigger hammock
Something similar happened to my son and that's how he got his name: Hammockflip.
I have had a hammock failure when experimenting with fabric. I didn't have a RL on it and hung it too tight in the dark. It took ~30min and the Earth slapped me for not paying attention.
Last fall, or Autumn to avoid the pun, I didn't pay attention, again, and used old rope to hang my hammy to test my new bug net. I had left the MSH on the rope for a few months and both sides snapped at the hitch. After first fall, I reset that side and after an audible laugh by the Earth, the other side gave way and I got slapped again for my stupidity.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
