I was using descender rings and webbing at the time, and I forgot the half hitch behind the rings for safety. So I get it all rigged up, get in and lay down. Just as I'm starting to feel all smug and ready to tell my buddies to take a hike, I begin a steady decent to the ground on my butt. I was great entertainment for my friends. Needless to say I never forgot the back up knot the rest of the trip. But every time I put my hammock up.....they'd line up to watch and snicker So the moral of the story is.....know what you're doing before you do it in front of your non-hammock friends, or you will end up on the ground with egg on your face!!!

I picked up a cheap $25 dollar hammock from Wal-mart, and decided to replace the cheap rope and carabiners at the ends. I can't remember why but I tied a different knot than I usually do. I brought my wife outside to show off my work, I was laying in it for about 5 minutes before the knot slipped and dropped me on the ground. Fortunately I was only about a foot off the ground and landed on soft grass, she had a good laugh.

Fell down once, so far. I just installed whoopies and forgot the sage advice of "milk the bury". I pulled the hammock open, one leg up and started shifting my weight to lay and down I went. In front of my wife and sister-in-law. They had a good laugh.

Twice. Once was user error when I sat in the underquilt instead of the hammock and the other time my HH suspension broke when my tree fell over.

I remember the tree incident--I'm surprised (but delighted) you're still with us
You're gonna need a bigger hammock

I pick smaller trees now and push on them first.

Yes, you can roll a hammock. The good news is that the flip was so complete that I landed on my bottom not my head. The ground was very soft. Nothing was hurt, not even my pride, as Timberrr was kind enough not to laugh at me for it.
Something similar happened to my son and that's how he got his name: Hammockflip.

I have had a hammock failure when experimenting with fabric. I didn't have a RL on it and hung it too tight in the dark. It took ~30min and the Earth slapped me for not paying attention.
Last fall, or Autumn to avoid the pun, I didn't pay attention, again, and used old rope to hang my hammy to test my new bug net. I had left the MSH on the rope for a few months and both sides snapped at the hitch. After first fall, I reset that side and after an audible laugh by the Earth, the other side gave way and I got slapped again for my stupidity.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
