Anybody ever try this ?? I think I had read where there had been some winter setups like this only with down.
I have been more and more thinking about an integral UQ layer.
I just dont like all the UQ fiddling and I have wide shoulders and am tall.
The idea is to build a 2 layer hammock out of M50, totally unconnected 2 layer with maybe some velcro at the sides in a couple of spots just to hold it together.
I am figuring a 5x12 double M50 with the bottom having the permanently
attached 5XP UQ section, full 5' width and 6' long. The bottom cloth would be sort of a pouch shape so as not to compress the XP to much.
5XP would cover 90% of my hanging, and keeping it open I could rewhip a different bottom layer on, IE like for very hot summer etc.
If my numbers are right, the hammock body would weigh about 9 oz and the 5XP UQ section would weigh 19 oz thats 1 layer of 5xp and 1 layer of M50 5'x6'. I think I want full width at the shoulder but I could taper it to one side at the feet to save some weight.
Total of 28oz + 2 for straps + 1.6 for whoopies = About 31.6 oz total.
For moderate winter just T 2 3/8 GG pads together so add 11oz.
18 oz pack, 2oz dry bag, 32oz hammock and integral UQ, 20 oz 5XP top quilt, 13 oz tarp and I end up at about a 5.3# big 4 and roughly a 10# base.
