Cheers Mate, it turned out to be a nice little spot, not a heap of room but the rock we were purched on did us well :-)

It was my first attempt at that fire method and my hands suggested I should rest and try again at a later time, Corin who was with me is really good at it and had a tinder ball alight in less than 20 sec's!!!

I do have to ask what make of kayak that your buddy used. The blue and black one. At the beginning of the video it looked like it was inflatable as the deck of it seemed to flex a fair amount.

Hopefully the weather down in Oz calm down temperature wise and you get some much needed rain to help with the wildland fires you are getting.

    Cheers

It is indeed the feathercraft, it has inflatable chambers that you blow up which tighten it all up. A great bit of gear.

    Thanks

That looked so fun and relaxing. Starting fire with sticks?? Hard core, man! I don't even have a fire striker...just been using a bic lighter. I do have a Zippo enroute to me...excited. I have a kayak, but have not, YET, used it to transport myself on a hammock trip...I look forward to doing this in May. There will be a hang on an island in the lake near my town. I did take my kayak on my first hang and this happened...

Watched the vid while it is snowing here, thanks for the camp along....

Did the handdrill have a successful ending? Still a nemesis of mine, I am practising and practising but 'not there yet' ... so good luck/good on ya mate!

To all Down Under: good luck with all the fires raging!

    Thanks for watching guys,

Yeah the hand drill evaded me on this my first attempt. I may try it with a bow and drill as that is easier and come back to the handdrill.

Thanks for the thoughts will the fires, we have some fellow aussies that are doing it a bit tough just now.
