    Smile New to the HF

New to hammock camping period, I have always been into camping, hiking and outdoor adventures, however, never really considered sleeping via hammock until I ran into a few videos from Shug (very entertaining guy). He's peaked my interests and I'm definately going to purchase some materials to put my own together. My daughter just got a sewing machine for Christmas from her Grandmother which will come in really handy (kind of convenient how that worked-out)...

Been looking for something fun to do with her since she's not really interested in camping that much, it will give me something to get her help with, while designing and fabricating my first hammock. Plus, whatever other items I may need to add to the system through trial and error.

I do know how to use the sewing machine (one of many things I learned how to do from my Mother) but, I'll still let her do a good bit of the work since she's just learning the craft...
It's not the glide in the ride, it's the swing in the sling...

Welcome to the forum! There are a lot of DIY stuff on here to research and make. Glad you are going to share it with your daughter! That ought to be some good bonding time. Maybe you can talk her into using what y'all made on a good quality camping outing. Good luck putting your kits together! Should be fun!

Thank you, thank you guys, much appreciated. I'm looking forward to many adventures on the trail. My oldest (14) will probably be the victim...er, i mean, my companion going on the "adventures" until my youngest decides to try her hand at it... We'll have some fun I believe, learning the way of "the hammock". I've got grandiose plans of hiking the AT at some point and that's all about ,maintaining a manageable weight while en-route. The hammock seems like a great way to help minimize the burden...
