What to look for in a thread injector?

I'm embarking on my first DIY project shortly of a tarp. I'll be borrowing my mom's thread injector (along with her for guidance) to complete the task. If it all works out well, and I decide to make some more stuff, I'd like to look into purchasing my own thread injector. Our local Kijijii has a ton of them listed, from 100+ year old machines to ones form the 70's and 80's.
I personally prefer the old metal singers for appearance, but what do I actually require from a machine as far as what it can do?

That's my guidelines post. Others have found it helpful. The only thing absolutely required is a forward lock stitch. Reverse is second. Anything else including zig zag is totally discretionary.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

OK, so reading over the basic requirements, assuming the thread injector is in good working order, both the Singer 99K and 15-91 should both work? There are several of both for sale here between $50-$100. I would think at least one of them would be in good working order.

Both are good machines. My preference would be the 15-91.

Be sure to check the wiring carefully for cracking insulation as this commonly needs replaced. Later made models stand a better chance of having good wiring.

Thanks gmcttr. Hopefully they stay for sale a bit longer until I'm sure I'm going to need one.

You'll need one. If they have a 201 grab it, perhaps the best Singer ever made.

I'll keep my eyes open. I'm going to check and see if we have any sales/repair shops locally as well.

I'm thinking about purchasing a singer 15. All I know about it is that it works. For $40 as is, would it be worth fixing up?
