The phenomenon you are describing is referred to as "calf ridge" and this ridge can interfere with your quilt sealing properly, and would explain the cold spot in your legs (your rear end is likely helping to seal the quilt which is why just your legs were cold). I defeated it by adding a huge draft tube on the leg end my UQ and playing around with a mini-spreader bar (which takes a lot of mods to work on a stock BB).
    Directionally challenged...comicly so.

Not all who wonder are lost...But I'm probably just lost.

Also, I basically sleep on my back but have a very slight bend in my knees AND lean them towards the left just a bit. I wonder if you were trying to sleep too flat and your legs were "locked".

And I forgot to say something about your comment about boiling water and canister getting too cold. Check out my "how to" in the link below on that and NEVER let anyone tell you canister fuel is no good in cold, cold weather -

(edit, link works now) using Jetboil in cold weather

You may be right in my sleep position.

You link didn't work though, it has "..." in the link itself throwing out an error.

Very interesting! I'm using a Snowpeak Gigastove, so I'll have some magic to work. I've heard similar solutions with running copper around the canister... but this sounds much safer!

I'm real new at this, so take it for what it is worth, but I have figured out how to make that calf ridge go away in my blackbird (and it took me most of week). I needed to put more sag in it than I originally started with. I also found that there is a just right position in the hammock. Try moving back and forth towards the peak and away from it and I think you will find it. At least I did. My spot is with my feet right to edge of the footshelf. YMMV as I am sure that depends largely on your physical size as much as anything. When you find it, you will know it and be really happy.
If it moves, you can eat it. No promises you will think it tastes good.

The incubator has a specific cut from the legs downwards - if you sleep the wrong way round the UQ will be loose at the legs and too tight around the shoulders.
I did that once too. LOL

Bringing your Alcohol Stove on the next cold weather trip doesnt sound like a good idea. Most alcohol stoves wont perform well in the cold. Best would be white gas, or try and throw your canister in your sleeping bag with you to warm it up first.

The only times I have had "calf ridge" in the WBBB is when I pitched it too loose. If the ridgeline is loose at all (at least for me) then I have trouble getting the proper lay in the hammock. I usually wind up with it pretty darn tight, to get the hammock just right.

All in all, it is just going to take som experimentation, to see what setup works best. Dont give up!

Not to take the topic off of the WBBB, but I too have the whole "pressure on my knees" in my ENO DN. I have never had this issue with my BB, but can't seem to shake it with my ENO. I have played around with my ASRL thinking my sag was the issue and still no luck. I'm 6'2'' and 210lbs. Any tips would be appreciated. And yes I started with 83% like most suggested the sweet spot to be and my height just won't allow it.
