I like that the guy is wearing a beanie, scarf, and mittens when cold. Does he wear shorts when it's hot ?

107f just the other week. I'm in Autralia though. Amazed how much heat the bug net keeps in even with a bit of a breeze.

The third annual Minnesota Frozen Butt Hang happens this weekend. It sounds as if an all-star group of HammockForum members will be there.

Temps are supposed to be minus-20 to minus-30, with snow and heavy wind. I hope some of them weigh in on this thread when they return next week.

Sometimes you just don't or at best it's a crappy nights sleep.
Haven't tried the water thing, but have left the tarp off to enjoy the rain before.
Will have to try a quick soak before jumping in next time.
I much prefer being out amoungst it in the cooler months....less snakes and all.

There must be a strong warming trend coming into the west. I just checked Peter Sinks UT, and after a low of minus 29.3F on Jan 12, followed by minus 48.8 on the 13th and minus 49.1 on the 14th ( with daily highs jumping by 60+* to about +13-16F), I notice the low yesterday only dropped to minus 5.3F. And the high jumping to 22.4. Down right toasty.

This would be a good area for cold weather testing, if you wanted to have high odds of really cold temps, without having to go to Canada or Alaska or go to super high altitude. It is "only" 8100 ft there. I bet there can be some challenging nights even at the peak of summer.

It would also be easy to not live through the winter night!

    Any Russian hangers?

If there are any Russian HF members, they may be looking for some global warming so that they can find some trees to tie to! Which UQ and tarp would be appropriate for any upcoming HF hangs? Plus, did Y'all see the video/news of the ( I think it was a ) Russian fireman being almost crushed by the falling snow ball?

    http://rt.com/news/winter-snow-russia-weather-275/

In the end of 2012, Russia saw extreme winter not witnessed since 1938. The coldest-ever December in Russia led to the evacuation of hundreds of people in Siberia, where temperatures fell below -50 degrees Celsius; Moscow also saw its coldest night ever for the season......
