    elephant trunk usage

Ok so I just ordered some elephant trunks and was thinking how i might use them and came up with this. I plan on girth hitching a dog bone to the whipped end of my hammock ( I used the same whipping that Warrbonet uses) and just putting that on the ET and just using the ET as my adjustment point and eleminating my whoppie sling altogether. I do think i will need some longer tree straps mabe 10'-12' but thats ok. So what are your thoughts, I'll take them all good or bad.

Sounds like a good idea. the only real downside (other than the adjustability of the ET) might be that straps weigh more than amsteel whoopies in my opinion. Otherwise, if weight is no worry, rock on!

For fine tuning, the ET's take longer to adjust because of the way the webbing is fed through them. Not a huge deal, you just need to try it out and see if it works for you. 12 feet straps are a good length.

I do exactly what you are proposing and I love it. I use a pair of 12', 1 inch wide straps from Harbor Freight, very light. I like this method much better than whoopies. You use straps anyway to save the trees.

I do that too, except I have a continuous loop thru the end channel on my hammock that I just hook on the ET.

Oh yeah, I use 12' straps too.
    Good luck,

I like the elephant trunk as a replacement of the marlin spike hitch, but for me it would be a bit fussy without whoopie slings. With the whoopies the ETs don't usually need to be adjusted.

I use Et's directly to a continuous loop at the end of my hammock, works well, but is not a quick adjustment point. Not too much effort, but a bit of fussing about. My straps are 15' and so far have been way too long, and I agree, 12' should work most of the time.
