I believe I've seen these instructions though I have never used them.

That's the way we make them. I go about the diamond knot a bit differently but it yields the same result. It is important to note that the soft shackle is strongest when the knot is centered between the loads. Once the knot has been loaded a couple of times, one can trim the tails off close to the knot for further weight reduction.

I just got my first amsteel from diy gear today. I made a couple continouse loops for my descender rings. Is that how you spell descender? Anyway, that was my first experience with amsteel and a pretty fun project. What do you use a soft shackle for? I was going to use the rest of my amsteel for a ridgeline.

Works as as biner replacement. And it works well and is even lighter than your average biner

Yep the soft shackle was my first piece of diy gear. They aren't quite as easy to use as biners but I always keep a couple in my pack just in case I lose a biner or need another biner-like piece. It was fun to make and not a big loss if you mess it up.

I have to say but I just dont see the big use for a Soft shackle. I think they are harder to use and dont weigh much less then a biner. Am i missing something? I made a couple just because i was playing around but i doubt i will take them for use anywhere.
