okie newbe blames Derek and Shug

Started camping in the womb! When I was a kid it was cheep and free. Drive out to the mountains surrounding China lake CA. Did a stint in the cub scouts in SanDiego than boy scouts in Virginia beach va. Got to hike the AT a little and loved it. Next I spent 17 years camping all over the world as a grunt for uncle Sam. Now my son is in the boy scouts and his troop goes into the piney woods every month and in between camp outs I take my son on our own trips. That whole time was waisted I now see. I was a tent camper or just a bivy bag. I could have been living it up between two trees and a piece of nylon. One day looking at youtube at alcohol stoves I happened on a shug shug shug shug vid and I was stuck. I've asked the surgeon general to place a warning on his channel. Its like crack. so now here I am looking up prices of Hungarian goose down, laying out 10 yards of nylon making my first tarp. Starting fires in my solo stove. Hammocks are a drug like crack or Viagra. My boy now calls it Cammocking. Camping will never be the same. Thank you all very much. Oh yea I can't forget to blame and thank Derek Hansen. love his book. i just orderd two more coppies for my scout troop. Again thank you all.

I had been hammocking a few times (mostly being cold and uncomfortable) and found that setting up a hammock and tarp was such a pain, then I found The Ultimate Hang and read it from cover to cover and it opened my eyes to an easier way to hang (whoopies etc) and how to get comfortable and warm. Then I found Shug's videos which helped me even more, the more I learn though the more kit I 'need'! It certainly is addictive.

ps Have you found Dutchware yet? and welcome aboard.
