    Not so scientific test

Spent two night in Red River Gorge, 2/16 & 17. First night was the colder of the two with a low of 18*. Combo of hammock > IX UQ > JPC UQ > UQ protector very warm with fleece pants + long john top & bottom + beanie + JCP down socks. Was almost concerned about sweating. Slept 13 hrs solid.... it was a long season and first night in the woods.

    Coach,
I have never seen detachable doors deployed that way. Interesting.

BTW what size tarp is that?

http://www.arrowhead-equipment.com/tarps.html -12' ridgeline - I'm real happy with the craftsmanship

The picture was taken facing the southwest, which was the direction the wind/snow was blowing. Made cooking and talking to my hiking partner very comfortable...

Rice Creek got cold this weekend - down to +29F. The jcp underquilt - designed and stitched up by Duffy - did a fine job of keeping me warm!

    Take two same size jackets
Put them both on like you would wear them, but put the one you would wan on the outside on first
Pin just the bottom edge together and sew
To use as a quilt just tie shock cord just below all four corners of the collars
Use the collars as draft collars
One jacket will be inside out when used as a quilt
Just tuck the arms in as extra insulation
As a double jacket the seam at the bottom puffs it out a little adding extra insulating space

Wheeeeee, 28$ ten minute wearable quilt
NOW, this is more of what I had in mind. It seemed such a shame to take two perfectly functional coats and cut them up to make a quilt. I'd rather carry them as multi-function items. I bought two jackets, one XL and one XXXL, so they would fit together without compressing the down. Though, instead of sewing the bottom edges, I plan to install snaps to keep them as versitile as possible. I was also thinking of removing the sleeves from the XXXL jacket to use it as a vest because I just don't like a lot on my arms. Then I could also make some booties!

    Smile Great Idea

Im going to try this however something a little different so there will not be a extra Item to carry, more to come.

Well done! So, with two jackets, I should be able to get 1/2 UQ, 1/2 TQ 1 set of sleeves, 1 set of booties, and a half a pillow, right?
