I spent my first 27 years on the East Coast (NASA Brat) living in Ohio, Alabama and Florida during
the Apollo missions. Each state had something special to offer.
Learning to hike and camp in the Appalachian, those mountains hold a special place in my heart.

Now after 35 years in Colorado, believe it or not one can tire of the Blue Green and White
of the CO mtns and when that happens I head to Utah's Red and Orange canyons or
back to my roots in Tenn and N. Alabama.

We truly do live in one beautiful country. Thank God its not all the same.

Question for you, Outandback: -- how do you like your accu-rite thermometer (pictured)? Is it fairly accurate like the name implies? I saw one at Waly World the other day, and almost sprung for it, ..but then had second thoughts. What has been your experience with using it? Do you recommend, or not? What do others of you say?

For 6 bucks how can you go wrong?
As I understand it it only accurate down to -4F
It's not waterproof
I have no idea how accurate it is but I like having it in camp just to get an idea of the general temp.

Awesome trip report O&B! Loved the pics! I like the pics of food and meals and kitchen gear better than that of trees and trails sometimes.

It is amazing what reading these reports do....just came back from the NEHHA Winter Hang in about 18" of snow in the Berkshire Mountains in Mass a week ago, and after reading this TR want to reload and get back out again now! LOL!

Well, so far mine IS waterproof.... I know it's designed to be stuck to the outside of a window, so I just assumed it was sealed. When I was out testing my new DIY silnylon tarp a few weeks ago in that rainstorm, I used it as a drip line on my suspension. Worked great, still works. I know the battery compartment at the bottom isn't watertight, but if it's hung from the hole on top as designed, water shouldn't get up in there.

BTW, I've been popping one side of the battery clip loose when not in use, just to save the battery. Anyone know if this is really necessary, or have an idea on battery life?!?

It was very beautiful. After watering the trees I laid there with my head on the edge of the hammock and watched the light slowly change the colors on the snow before dropping back to sleep. Very relaxing.

I to like around camp picts, prepping food, etc I've picked up many ideas from them that I adopted.

I do the same thing with my battery to increase its life. The battery slot is why I though the unit was not waterproof. But as you say if you hang it, it should be pretty water tight. It's a great little piece of camp kit.
