new river keeping me warm in the 20's

i just wanted to come here and say thanks for making a nice warm under quilt that doesn't break the bank. i posted my trip report with a pic of it.

i had been calling it the incubator because i really wanted one but the name stuck with me after purchasing the new river. so after learning of my mistake i wanted to come here and fess up on it. i'm just glad i found my mistake before someone called me out on it. gotta give my thanks where it is deserved. the new river kept me warm on my first cold weather outing. it got down into the 20's and my backside was warm throughout the night. so you have my thanks!

I've always had a hunch that these babies would keep most folks warm enough well past the 30F they are rated for. I think by the end of this winter we will have ample evidence of that. Kudos to Paul at AHE for rating his qults conservatively. Better warmer than rated than colder.

Glad to hear it! I'll be taking my New River out around New York state next week pushing it lower than I've done before and I was counting on my hot-bloodedness to see me through. I love the coverage on that quilt.

Grate to hear that the New River did so well for you. Full length coverage makes a difference to me in colder temps.

No complaints here. Once I got the quilt dialed in, it was nice and toasty. I think the same can be said of the Owyhee Top Quilt as well. I think the temp rating is a little conservative; I had it down to 30 and was breaking a sweat.

I love my New River as well!

Have only had mine into the upper 30s, but the coverage is perfect. No fiddling needed.

Just got back from the Lost Maples Hang in Texas. The New River was my first UQ and I had been having trouble with getting a cold butt at 50 degrees. Some of the guys checked things out and found a hole that would open up when I got in. After getting it cinched up right the temp was 29 and we had a howling wind down the canyon all night. The way my face was burning in the morning it had to have a wind chill way down in the teens. I had a piece of bubble wrap reflector pad under me and was fine.
