Dismayed. Cellar not hammock friendly.

Well, I got my GT UL on Wednesday. After a couple of nights of Scouting (meetings, alas...no field work) I was finally home to try a test hang downstairs tonight.

A few weeks ago, I was able to string up my old mesh hammock with hilarious results, but the ol' GT just don't fit in the same spot - it's too long.

That, and I have mismatched heights...got a big ol' pipe about waist-high, and then some ceiling joists at the other end. I never did get it quite right.

Although the ten minutes I managed in the thing were OK, I get the concept now, except I kept sliding to the low end.

It's supposed to be a nice day around here tomorrow, I'm on the prowl for some trees at the right distance...

Just for kicks and giggles try reversing the head and foot so the foot is higher. Many people do that on trees to prevent slipping down. Waist high is a bit low for an attachment point IMO but if the head is there you might have better luck.

If @ 1st u don't succeed, try again. I tried 4 anchor locations before I got it right. My problem was having them to close together for the 8' hi anchors. Try spreading them out.

If you have any room in the basement, a turtledog stand might be something worth considering.

I put eyehooks into the joists and hung a chain down from them. I used the chain like a tree. It worked well and is easily removable if needed.

I have room in my cellar but there's too many spiders so I'll pass. No trees in the yard either. Gotta wait until I can get in the woods or over to my mom's house to try out my new WBBB. The wait sux, but I'm sure the payoff will be worth it.

Well, so I managed to get outside Saturday afternoon as promised.

I have a nice tree and the roof support to my patio at just the right distance, so I strung it up and crawled in. It was about 40 yesterday and very windy, so just resting there I could feel CBS creeping in.

Next up was my pad....that worked for a bit, but then I stuffed a space blanket in and dropped the pad on top.

I could feel myself getting warmer, even with no topquilt or even a jacket on. (What can I tell you, I'm a cold-weather martyr). It was a bit awkward and uneven, but I suppose that efficiency will come with experience.

Next up, I've got to unroll my tent and pull out the tarp and see what I can do to jury-rig the thing (I hope it fits), and I don't think I had the hammock quite 'dialed in', so I will continue to mess with it before attempting to hook up a ridgeline.
