If you don't want to have to carry the added weight of a peak bag (I know it's not much but to some people it matters) then you could prussic a mitten hook or micro biner to your ridgeline and clip one of your stuff sacks to it. That's how I do it.

If you make your stuff sack a bishop bag... It does the same thing... Just deploy and then fill with your stuff...

Thanks for all the goods tips. I was thinking of just a section of fabric going across the hammock up near one or both ends to create a gear loft or pocket. It could be used to throw my pants or jacket into and provide easily access in the middle of the night if needed. The main advantage would be to keep things from sliding back down into the hammock provide quick and easy open access.
Stuff sack type storage would be harder to get at and I don't understand how the Lazy Slug works at as storage. Is it just a cover or does it have a pocket that would keep things out of the hammock bottom? By the way, when I first read that I thought it said "Lazy Shug".
Bishop bag or slug tube is hanging there at the end of the hammock. One can put "stuff" in there for overnight storage out of the weather. Not as convenient as what you are looking at since the "stuff" ends up under the hammock at the end.
I would be looking at an open top box if I was trying to do what you want. Sides could be fabric and fold. Anchor point at the end to fasten to the end of the hammock with a bit of string. No sewing to the hammock body.
YMMV

Free advice worth what you paid for it. ;-)
I've thought of adding a gear loft in the ends like that but use a stretchy mesh material so it will give a little. Or just use noseeum to maybe save some weight?
I have a mesh peak bag I can see the contents in and I like it but don't like fiddling with the draw string and stuffing or rolling things to put in it. I'd much prefer to just toss things into an open pocket or loft.
Edit: nothermark, "Top Box" ... good name for it!

I've built the HammockShelf several times as a custom add-on for folks.
Making this would be a simple project for anyone having basic DIY skills.
HammockShelf
Materials: Noseeum, 1/16" Shock Cord, Grosgrain ribbon
Size: approx 22" x 22" triangle when all cinched up.
The shelf has 3 attachment points. A shock cord loop to hook over the suspension rope and 2 grosgrain loops sewn to the edge of the hammock.
The HammockShelf froms a pocket at the peak of the hammock that works great for a jacket, rain gear, hats, gloves, etc. It's easy to reach from inside the hammock during the night or from outside during the day. It doesn't work well for full water bottles or anything heavy like that because it will sag too much and lay against your head.
An open "top box" idea has merit in my opinion. You could just make it a saggy piece of fabric attached by Velcro to the side seams up near the hammock ends. That way it could be removed and any sewing would not compromise strength. Although I don't think a bit of sewing in the main body is that big of a deal. Thanks all.
Sorry PapaSmurf...I posted my reply before I saw your post. This add-on of yours I happen to like!
If you put it at the foot end it would not sag against your head.
I've done them mostly in pairs, one at the foot and another at the head.
I couldn't reach the foot shelf from inside the hammock. When I was testing them, I stored "inside stuff" on the head end and "outside stuff" on the foot end.
I suppose on an 11ft hammock, you'd have more room between your head and the HammockShelf.
