Does anyone have any experience with these? I mean the actual tents that suspend off of the ground like a hammock, usually from 3 or 4 straps (it may be the only way I will get my wife out of a ground tent). Please see pics below...

I don't recognize the first three but the fourth pic looks like the Tentstile (sp) product.
I've seen a few reviews by people who have them and they seem to like them.
What is it that your wife doesn't like about hammocks? There may be an easier way to "elevate her perspective".

Hi Johnspenn and W8lkinUSA! I think her main concerns are privacy and maybe comfort? She likes camping, but has always had the comfort of a tent you can move around in and be comfortable, like laying and sleeping in whatever position, you know? Also, she likes having her stuff with her, easily accessible...
Some questions/comments:
1. Has she ever tried a hammock? For most, the comfort of a hammock vs sleeping on the ground is far superior. It also eliminates the need for alot of shifting around, because it eliminates pressure points that develop when sleeping on the ground. Let her nap in yours, just hang out in it during the day in your backyard or while y'all are out camping so she can see if it is comfortable for her.
2. The right tarp can provide as much privacy as a tent, and you don't have to get on your knees to get in and out of it. You can change clothes standing up instead of laying on your tent floor.
3. There are multiple options to storing your gear in a convenient place where it is accessible: ridgeline organizers, peak bags, side pockets and shelves on some of the higher end hammocks, etc.

Hammocking isn't for everyone, but to me it's SO much more comfortable and restful than sleeping on the ground. Good luck in your conversion attempt and happy hanging!

How easy or difficult is it to find an appropriate space to hang it? Clearing, trees spaced correctly, etc. Looks like a really cool product and could be lots of fun, but I'd worry about being able to use it enough to justify the cost.Originally Posted by Campdavid

They depend on being pulled nearly flat - this puts an incredible tension on the trees which can pull the trees down on the occupants or damage the trees. With reports of state agencies banning hammocks this kind of shelter feeds the fire with gasoline.
Thanks for the "thinkers", johnspenn, I'll talk to my wife about those! Also, i have a 7-year old to think about, I'm not sure he's ready to "hang" by himself yet (he and mommy would use the hanging tent together). Campdavid, thanks, I'm thinking like johnspenn, are useful tree spacings few and far between (ie. Hard to find)?
Also a concern of mine, GreatBigDave, tearing up trees and safety. I assumed they had a kinda springy bottom (or a "sag", like a hammock?), with a frame, maybe? Or straps with a little "give" in them? Not sure, I've never seen one in person...
