    Talking Cloudburst and RidgeRunner pics

Well these pics will be old news for most of you, but it's exciting to have new gear and try it out!

Took the tarp and hammock out today for an inaugural test hang in my secret hanging spot in the middle of the city. Took advantage of the warmish +4 C (40 F) weather--it's to go down to -15 to -20 C (around 0 F) later this week.

Last week I hung the Edge over the RR and added doors. Workable with the doors attached but tight. Will have to find a way to protect the tarp from rubbing the spreader bars...

This week it was the Cloudburst's turn.

Man, the Cloudburst is a big tarp! I'm used to my little Edge.

    Pitched high, without pull-outs.

Tied out the corners ^shane^ style as per this thread: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=25052 It's so simple and effective.

    Spacious!

    Cloudburst

pro: it covers the hammock completely. Pull-outs in the right place. Rings inside the tarp for pulling the bugnet up; also useful to string a line between for hanging light things. Good quality.

con: not catenary-cut on the bottom, so it takes more skill to get a completely taut pitch along the bottom edge. Panel Pullouts are necessarily far apart, so you can't connect them and use one pull-out stick+tie-down--it means always looking for lots of tall sticks.

By the way, the MEC "go" down pillow ($12) is awesome in the ridgerunner.

nice setup you have. what is your span tree to tree?

Hamhocker uses her Mamajamba (same size as your tarp) tarp with her JRB bridge hammock. We just bought some doors for it and she is going to sew them on.

So effectively she is making a Superfly!

    Thanks Ewker
I didn't measure, but I'd guess the span was about 18 feet...

it was tough to decide on a tarp--almost went with a mamajamba, but thought, Brandon is smarter than me, so the Cloudburst is probably the best choice for the Ridgerunner...Time will tell. Can't wait to do some weeklong hikes this spring. I've increased weight by going this route, but sleep comfort is paramount for me---just couldn't get comfortable in the Blackbird.

yeah she would be making one of those. I forgot the Superfly comes with doors.

18' isn't to bad as I was expecting it to be more than that

Are the panel pulls on your tarp lined up with the spreader bars of the hammock?

Congrats on the new gear. Looks great. Shane's guyline method is my favorite, too.

Sturgeon, if your looking for a easy way to protect your tarp, below is a couple of pics of some 1/2 dense ethafoam, from a ground pad cut out of, to protect the spreader bar ends from scraping and abusing the tarp..especially if you ever go the cuben route. I scraped some tiny holes maybe 4,,in a 3 in. scrape on cuben as the spreader bars of my BMBH UL swung up and swiped it, and they are rubber coated on the ends of the spreader bars lightly,,since these pics, I added on one of the 3/32 shock chords a dutch plastic clip so that I don't have to slide it over the entire suspension system, and even cut the ethafoam pieces alot more smaller than just square and very durable and lightweight. It was a quick and easy fix for alittle protection after abusing the cuben tarp.
