Three Sisters Wilderness Loop ~ August 2013

After cycling the Oregon coast, I plan to meet up with my girlfriend and hike the Three Sisters Wilderness Loop in 5 days. It will be my first time in the Northwest and a first backpacking trip for the girlfriend (She does loves hammocks).

We plan on taking the Clark NX-200 and the Warbonnet hammocks.

How is the hanging for this loop? Any recommend hanging spots?

Do we need to worry about wide trees?

I'm not expecting much rainfall but what about humidity?

I'm really in the early stages of planning. Just ordered the map.

    lucky you

I love that area. I have never done that exact hike though. I have climbed middle sister from two different directions and it is beautiful. You are on the rain shadow side of the cascades, so humidity is not your problem. Depending on the snowpack/melt and when you go, the mosquitos (mozzies) are terrible! You will covet the WWBB built in bug net. The ponderosas (p- pines) are not as big as the West side trees so a standard 6' tree strap/6' whoopie setup will be fine. I plan to hike the PCT in that area south to Waldo lake this summer/fall. Have a great time!

You may want to check for closures in that area late last season there was a fire that burned right up to the tree line from north of mckenzie highway to south sister on the east side. You may want to come prepared for at least some time spent on the ground. Ground sheet inflatable mattresses, bug netting depending on time of season and a tarp that you can pitch on the ground would be my suggestions. Other than that the hanging on the West side is great with lots of great opportunities. If you get a limited entry pass for the obsidian area you can plan on spending time there and go down and check out the obsidian cliffs.

yes beware the pole creek fire -- i have not seen the aftermath.

but that promises to be a great hike. met a guy on the PCT last year who was hammocking the loop but in a mere 2 nights. take your time, climb south sister - explore the secret lake on broken top - green lakes basin is amazing - minnie scott springs is cool too.
