Very cool idea, wow that tarp looks so light weight. Maybe I need to upgrade my current tarp choice.

That's precisely what I do when the weather is "iffy" at bed time but I still want to see the heavens. It means that I can have my stakes already planted and go from star-viewing mode to hunker mode in less than thirty seconds.

If things look pretty clear, I'll set up the tarp but not deploy either side (I use Velcro cable ties as snakeskin replacements on my CRL). Takes a bit longer to deploy then, so I only do it when things seem crystal clear.

It's even twice as simple if you use a diamond tarp!

I've been doing this for years! Great idea! Also, when I'm camping at a music festival or something and I only want to use minimal effort for setup I just break out my 9x12 wall world tarp and throw it over the ridge line- then I can just pull it down over the whole hammock if I need it.

Just saw this vid. Like others, I do the same thing. Twice I have had to get up in the middle of the night to quickly deploy the other side as the rains came.
