I just spent the last hour pouring over this thread and now I understand why everyone I've been talking to in the Southeast has been talking about this hang...dang! I wish I could have been there. Hiking, hanging, paddling, food, friends...what's not to enjoy?

A question to olddog, where did you get glow-in-the-dark balloons?

Great trip reports, photos, and video. I too am bening tempted more and more by those GoPros, but as I have little money, I can wait until they have their issues figured out.

You forgot to mention that you also get a patch to commemorate the event.

Now that I have had almost a week to process, I have narrowed down the highlight of the weekend for me. It would most definitely have to be enjoying a cup of coffee with Running Feather as we watched the sun come up over Buck Lake. Good coffee, good company, good conversation and nature at her finest hour. Does it get any better than that?

FIMB, the LED ballons were found in the party section at Walmart. Like a lot of other things some stores carry them some don't.

This is great! How did I get blurry? Was I blurry all weekend? Why did no one tell me...?

I have a real problem with the FF3 event - It Just did not last long enough !

With more and more folks arriving each day -There was not time to meet everyone before my Sunday flight home. I wanted this event to last a couple more days so I could spend some time talking with each one.

Cause, you know, every HF person I've ever met is thoughtful; has at least one non-hammocking area of expertise I find fascinating; owns a piece of gear I want to see; and has a fun way of adding something interesting to the fireside chats!

    Old4Hats said it best (here)

And, since Old4Hats says this in the donating section I hope he will not mind if i quote a bit of that,

"Just getting away from the normal routine, sharing camping space with other like minded folks, enjoying a nice camp fire, having discussions on topics that you didn't think of, eating a bit differently than usual, and just letting the day pass around you, can be quite theraputic."

    • Yup, Old4Hats, you said it better than I could have
OK, I really enjoyed this hang. There is a serenity at Buck Lake that is unique to the locale. Thanks to all the core team who organized this event, Thanks to the volunteers who helped make all run smoothly, thanks to our -best in the world- Vendors for making and donating prizes; and thanks to those who ran workshops - really good stuff there!

I had the pleasure of meeting many new folks for the first time and I also enjoyed time shared with old friends. I can say attending a Hang "out of my normal region" is super! I think I'll try that again soon...

Speaking of D2, what a bright young girl she is; and a great conversationalist; and an accomplished hiker too! D2 and I were guarding the group's "6" during our hike around the lake.

    • Special thanks to LilRicky for making the airport extraction run late Thursday night - I was beginning to look around for places to hang at the airport...
    • Special thanks to Gary for taking me back to the airport Sunday (and informing me that Grinder completed a 10000 mile trip in his van. I'll be PMing Grinder bout that one after I search the forums for a trip report).
    • And special thanks to all the chefs and photographers for making memories we all can share.

Wow! Can't believe its been a week already! Have had some internet/cable issues this week. Ain't much on words but will try to get some out here.

I really enjoyed myself. It was nice to meet the new hangers that came down. Tried to get out and meet everyone but was unsuccessful at that. It amazing how far people are coming from now! Runningfeather and Loki from Carolina, Detail and his crew from Tenn., Underground quilt guy and better half from Mich., Old 4 hats from CT. Seakakayker from GA, just to name a few.

Would like to thank everyone for showing up and eating the eats we laid out! Each year this event gets better organized!

Thanks itsandy for showing me the way at Juniper springs and the other trips you put together. and the other stuff you did like getting the main course for Sat. night meal!
Lilricky taking over making coffee! That was a big help! Man y'all can drink some coffee!

    Here are my big thanks for helping me in the kitchen area;
My main KP crew , FLB,FLG and special K. Ya'll worked tirelessly beside me!
Old Dog for help and support. And the best grits and cobbler I have had the pleasure of eating!
Islander for all your suport and soux chef duty Sat night!
Chuck and Floridahanger for your food prep and cleaning!
MADD777 for letting me teach you how to prep the pineapple upsidedown cake and that chocolate cherry delight. Nice to meet your wife too!
Vangard for helping out in the morning!
    What can I say ,
Thanks Gumbo and Timberrr for all the thaings ya'll did setting this hang up!
Lil'ricky, your efforts putting together items for the raffle were something else!
Blackwolf for the BBQ Friday! Delish!
That blurry Flackfizer for getting this thing started with the initial group!
Ed Hess for answering my questions about putting the boil together!

    Tattoo-- thanks for the stove!
Thanks to the vendors for donating items to the raffle!

And another thanks for all the pics posted!

    As Grinder says :

    Course he uses his name!

I had asked for vacation time , but was disapproved. I found myself with only a few hours off all weekend, and almost decided to just miss the hang this year, but chose instead to drive down for what little time I had. THAT was the right decision. Once again I met old friends and new, feasted, spent time around the fire with kids and dogs, ate, laughed, ate, and relaxed (and had desert). What a wonderful time and a great bunch of folks! Leaving Saturday night was really, really hard.
Thanks to everyone for a fantastic hang. A sweet memory made even sweeter by the short time I was there. Can't wait until next year!!

(Oh, and I finally scored one of Old Dog's wooden spoons!!!!!)

Glad you made it and brought your wife with ya! Good to see you again!
Glad you got a spoon! Great score! They are a thing of beauty! Mine is on the fireplace mantle. Havn't had the heart to eat with it yet! So I bought another so i would not feel so guilty!
