Whoopie slings, difficult to adjust with weight?

Excuse me if this has been threaded already. I'm having trouble adjusting my whoopie slings once all my gear like TQ, UQ ect are in the hammock. It seems like I have to take the hammock off the slings and try to keep it from falling on the ground while I adjust the slings. Is there a trick to this? OR do people just adjust the hammock while its empty? I usually find I want to tweak it once everything is set up.

It is difficult to adjust when heavy, I do all of my adjustments before loading it up and if I have to make any adjustments afterwards I grab the gathered part of hammock where the whoopie is fed through with my left hand and pull it up to where I can reach the bury, pinch the end of the bury like normal then I pull the loosed end and make my adjustments. Just keep an eye on the toggle because the whoopie may come off and you will end up on the ground as I did. Always milk the bury and double check that the whoopie is still seated on the knot of your marlin spike hitch if that is what you use. I hope that helps.

While its weighted its locked. Grab the hammock or hammock end of the sling to take the weight while adjusting. I try to adjust before putting things in. But at a new setup there I'd usually some flex.

+3 or whatever to pick the weight off of it then adjust... Or adjust before putting your gear on... Either or...

Whoopies start at about 6:35 in the vid.

I've never had any problems adjusting with quilts in/on the hammock as long as you grasp the constrictor and release it as Shug shows in the video.

Personally I grab the gathered end, pull it towards the loop I'm adjusting, then stuff it in my armpit so I have both hands free to adjust. Sounds weird but it works well and I've never had any issues with it.

I just have Gumbo pull on the hammock while I adjust the whoopie. Easypeasy. So that's what I'd suggest - call Gumbo.
And +1 on always milk the bury to hold the adjustment where you want it.

I had this same problem at my last hang. I usually just do like everyone else and grab the gathered end then pull....but this last time I was pushing the limits of my length, so I had to grab someone else to tighten the whoopie slings while I lifted the weight.
