    January overnight in the Adirondacks

My girlfriend and I just got home from a quick overnight hang; our first January trip.

We found a spot out of the strong winds, built a nice fire and cooked a big rib steak and mashed potatoes, followed by a dessert of cheesecake. A bottle of Cabernet rounded out the meal.

    A wonderful night out!

Temps were forecasted to be in the mid-20's overnight. We both used KAQ New River underquilts and 20-deg.-rated down sleeping bags for top insulation, and were comfortably warm.

Great idea for date night, dinner and a show. I just wish my wife would go out in the woods like that.

Nice trip report! I have used that exact set-up, New River UQ and 20* bag, to take me into the low teens. Dinner sounded great, and you have indeed found a one-in-a-thousand girlfriend as a hiking/hanging companion!

    Thanks for the report!!

Nice! The Adirondacks are a hammockers paradise. Once separated from the confines of needed the ground for sleep, the entirety of the preserve becomes open for exploration. I have been in some deep spots where there was barely enough flat ground to place a stove, let alone a tent! I get up there at least twice a month.

    See you on the trail!
