    Thumbs up slow moving

At 65 years old got tired of crawling out of a tent trying to limber up and didn't sleep well. Hammocks wow almost need an alarm clock and you just turn and sit up stand up and for an old man you're upright.

    first real hang pending

well to put it simple i am tired of by back hurting. So i decided to give hammocks a try , i always liked lounging around in one so i figured that it couldnt hurt , and in 9 days ill know if i like it or not. Got a trip planed to go to the james river for a couple of nights, IF i like it and i think i will then ill be investing in a real hammock.

I used to hang in those awful rope hammocks growing up (never again). One day (two years ago) I stumbled upon Shugs videos on youtube while goofing around and I haven't looked back since. I was hooked, got my first hammock an ENO DN and liked it but then wanted to make my own so I looked on the forum and became addicted to DIY. Since then I have constructed over a dozen hammocks of different material, size and shape combinations, several sil nylon tarps and two underquilts, a climashield 1/2 UQ and a 20 degree 3/4 down UQ.

I was always curious about the hammock but because i broke my back in the past i was convinced that a hammock was not for me because of my back.
That and the fact i'm a big guy 6'7" and 150lbs.

But some dutch guy (Born2roam) said if you want try it out buy a cheap one for testing so i bought myself the Mosquito Jungle hammock.

And now i have a problem, I LOVE IT and bought myself a Warbonnet Blackbird 1.7 double.

    that B2R

he's a positive guy! I call my hammock my cure chamber.
Course it won't cure everything but it's an improvement.

I found hammock forums on white blaze a good many years ago, that lead me here. I read forums for a while before getting my 1st hammock, but was sure planning to get one! Long, almost sleepless, painful, nights had all but ended tent camping anyway so got a hammock and started camping again.

While camping in Algonquin last year a friend had a hammock used for quick naps and relaxation, after 1 night on the ground in a tent I decided to lay claim to the hammock, I am hooked up for life, going back to Algonquin in 2 days and the wife is coming along for the first time (with her new hammock of coarse.)

Actually, I guess I'm not officially a hanger yet since I'm still waiting on delivery. However, about 2 or 3 weeks ago, I got the urge to start hiking/camping again. One thing that came to mind was how uncomfortable it was to sleep on the ground at times and remembered a "fishnet hammock" I had as a kid to lounge in the yard. I wish I'd of found this site a few days earlier as it would have effected my gear choices...

Any way, for me it wasn't a magazine, TV show, Word of mouth or any outside infuence. It was just the memory of that yard hammock 30+ years ago and a desire to get back out and enjoy nature again.

My story, stumbled into it. Spent a couple days at a friends house on Nantahala Lake, one evening I slipped down to a hammock he had set up lakeside and ended up spending the nite out there. It was the best nites sleep I had in years. So it started me searching for more info, a couple google searches and I ended up here. I lurked for at least a year reading the posts and watching videos. Now I am addicted. I try to backpack exclusively with a hammock. I end up most mornings from my king size bed hurting and cant wait to get out of bed. In fact, I think I will go sleep in my hammock tonite.
