for me, it started on a vacation to mexico.. slept in a mayan (Hammock!!) in this little hotel in the middle of the jungle down by the Guatemalan border.. I loved it.. but I never really thought it was feasible for camping until years later I was in the mountains, and came across someone using a HH..

It took all of one night of me with roots and rocks in my back to realize the guy with the hammock was a genius

I've never slept on the ground since

I work in backstage theater and it not uncommon to work a 18 or 20 hour day from time to time, so I've had a eno in my work bag for years. It's amazing the places you find to sling up if you not afraid of hights. One day it just sort of clicked for me that I could take that lesson in to the woods

I can finally sleep when I go hiking

    Hello,
As some one that is new to hanging, I stumbled across this forum, looking for tips and tricks. I want to start out saying thank you! I have learned so much from every one's willingness to share their experience. I love the format and the respect shown in towards each other, even when opinions differ.
I love hiking, but hated sleeping on the ground. I kept seeing more and more hammocks on the trail, but I thought since I am a side sleeper that a hammock would not be an option for me. So I started talking to some of the people I met about their set ups and found out there are quite a few side sleepers using hammocks. I started to research and decided to order a DD travel hammock. All I can say is WOW! I never slept better! My only regret is that I waited so long to try it.

    Arrow in the army

In Viet Nam there were times several of us slung a poncho into a hammock with boot lace lashings. The first time I saw it I didn't think it would hold me. Then I used another poncho as a tarp. It was real comfortable, if a little exposed. Recently, after a long illness, I'm able to go camping again. I don't go very far, maybe a quarter mile in the woods. I made a hammock out of ripstop and a tent out of 4 mil plastic (for the winter). I found the hammock is warmer and more comfortable than sleeping in the tent. I try to go camping once a month or more.

My old body says it doesn't like climbing up and down, in and out of tents. Plus my hips need something soft to lay on. It can really painful on a pad that is too thin. Besides I have always like swinging in the hammock on the back porch.

I always wanted to use one in the military but due to space needed to put one up and we could only use issued gear I never got too until I got out.

It fits in with the Tenkara lifestyle. Started out as a recreational user now becoming a daily user. Not sure there is a cure for it.
