I decided that too many things can ruin a good hike of overnighter while sleeping on the ground....

    1) fire ants are not your friends
    2) cant see the stars in a tent
    3) tents smell funky
    4) did I mention fire ants are not your friends?
    5) Shug got me hooked after watching all of his hammock vids, and I found HF via his vids

well, you see where I am going with this

my mh skyview 2 didn't make for a very good solo shelter (9# 8 oz). add to that my dana design alpine ~7# and mh crazy legs ~4# i was ready for everest, but only doing the at. so decided to build a bridge hammock and found some ideas here. results are got a granite gear pack and home made hammock and ended up going from around ~40# walking to under 25. next gen hammock coming soon using some hyperd 1 or 1.6, can't wait to test out.

For me it was a recommendation by others. I have some back issues, and I was told that waking up from a hammock will be a pleasure.

Here is to hoping!!! Can't wait to get out there.

    Best,

    Chris

I saw that MEC was selling HH what the heck...I deserved a present man oh man what I gift I gave myself. Plus they have a very liberal return policy. I had slept in a hammock 30 years ago when the bones and muscles were stronger than they are now, I still camp away most of the summer. How much better can it be, super fast to set up and ever so comfy. Some mornings I am not sure I want to get up, its kinda nice just hanging there. Spent about a week in moist ole Hope BC helping a friend build a house, since I am too cheap to get a motel the hammock was hung so so much more comfy than a mattress.

Great for the young and old alike. Great stuff and a great site. As the weather cools I see a under quilt in the works.

    OH OH I almost forgot

if its good enough for Shug its good enough for me.

Earlier this summer, I was caught in a Johnstone Strait gale (British Columbia coast), after dark, in my kayak. My only safe landing spot was a tiny, rocky island without anything close to a level patch for my tent. I purchased a hammock shortly after getting back into civilization.

I decided to become a hanger because I find sleeping on a normal bed uncomfortable and I like stealth camping using a motorcycle as my primary form of transport. Having said that I am yet to actually spend a night suspended above ground lol.

Age... don't like sleeping the ground anymore... too uncomfortable. Now that I've started, I love it.

That and crawling in and out of a tent. Plus setup and take down is much faster with double end sack on the hammock and sleeves on the tarp. Plus no need to find a decent area to pitch a tent.

    Noob set to hang!

Greetings to all! I'm new here! I haven't actually hung yet, but the big date is NOV13th. I'm here because I am a bowhunter and I have tried every way possible to sleep in the woods without much success. Tents, cots, air mattresses, ccf pads, sleeping in the truck, at the motel, etc. Hanging sounds better than them all so I have high expectations on my upcoming three night stay. I am also planning to do some backpacking in Spain in the next two years so I want to be up to speed with with all the rigging before I arrive there. I don't have a rain fly yet. I plan to use a blue tarp for the first trip out, then pick up a Profly. I'm expecting mid 40's weather at night and maybe some showers. I'll post up my comments after the trip.
