Just love being in the outdoors, and comfortably, and for that a hammock is the way to go.

"These are the voices which we hear in solitude, but they grow faint and inaudible as we enter the world. Society everywhere is in conspiracy against the manhood of everyone of it's members." Ralph Waldo Emerson
Always camped out....fishing, hunting whatever. Long ago when I was in my early teens and couldn't afford to turn around... a man gave me a hammock.....been hanging ever since.
We haven't yet, however my husband and I plan on using hammocks to hike and do some bike touring.
I came here to learn what I can in order to cut our learning curve, and who better to learn from than
an experienced community.
Ed spear was the first place I discovered hammocks. After a terrible weekend sleeping on the ground in the Rockies on a fishing trip I decided never to sleep on the ground again. I bought Ed's book and my first banana hammock. The rest is history.

I've been hanging for about 2 years. I received a hammock for Christmas one year and found it was a very comfortable way to sleep. I have back trouble as well and when I wake up in the morning my back isn't killing me. So now the hammock is my preferred method of sleeping whether in the woods or at home.
I really liked camping because I did it a lot when I was a kid but sleeping on the ground is so uncomfortable.
So I started camping in a hammock, and now I'm here with fellow hammockers
My mate started talking about backpacking with his ENO. I lurked for a long time and decided on a WBBB XLC, a Superfly tarp, a Wooki UQ, and a HG TQ. I haven't looked back since. The ease of setting up away from campgrounds, and the luxury of laying off the hard ground.

I think I just started watching too much Shug videos one night... haha.
Also our tent was 12# and instead of buying a new lighter tent we decided to "distribute the weight" and go to hammocks.
Either way - learning a lot, dropping a lot of money, and having fun in the process.
Finding it is really hard to restrain ones self though. Kind of like when you buy a new house - you don't have to decorate it to the hilts right away like you've lived there for 12 years... hard not to go crazy on this adventure.
We have always done quite a bit of RV camping, especially when the kids were young, but 15 years on as they've gotten older, we have done much more hiking through the back country. Even when we were RV camping, we always had Eno hammocks hung for hanging out during the day. we've always been comfortable in the hammocks, so we started putting our own kits together for hammock camping in the back country. Never looked back! Of course, we have ditched the enos for DDs and snugpacks.
