I'm not hanging yet. Only at the start of trying to understand all of this, but this forum is great and has invaluable information. For me this started during BSA Woodbadge course when one of the participants was using a hammock.

I loved cool forts when i was a kid. I love the idea of having to know knots and little skills to make you a better hanger. all the ropes and lines are just fun to tinker with and perfect. its just too **** cool

It was first suggested by a friend. After my first (albeit somewhat fitful) night in a hammock, I woke up with my my feet and back feeling great.. Hooked!

I was researching the superior hiking trail when I discovered Shug. I was hooked after the first video.

Camping a minimum of every month with the Boy Scouts and my back was killing me. Researched different methods and found hammocking. Now I'm hooked & hanging.

Way more comfort and easier for the middle of the night nature calls
I may be lost but I am making great time.

joining the world of "go lighter" and looked at tarps to replace a tent. Then I began to think about waking up with bugs....or worse, snakes. That led me to buy and ENO promotional AMC double hammock and a 10X10 tarp else where. Ii want to do 4 season so I am researching bug screens and winter warmth providers. I am a newborn and will be feeding often!! I'd like to thank all the folks here that I will interact with as I learn....in advance!

Not a hanger yet but a wannabe

Must make a decision and go after it. When funds are low, and we have never experience a hammock that didn't curve your back, it is hard to decide what to try. I do think that they will be easier to set up than a tent in most places.

    Broke and loving it

Been on some rough deployments. Have to be careful with a hamburger back and cheese grated knees. Always been a super athletic guy, had always been a heavy hauler when it comes to backpacking. Blew my ACL about three years ago. The repair went ok but now I have scar tissue chunks in between my joints. Took two years of physical therapy three times a week to get to where the leg stiffness and range of motion returned with out extreme pain. Went from being a 12.30 2-mile runner to barely able to walk, let alone hike (my two most favorite things aside from family). Fought a bout with depression and won. Sought out this now addictive ultra light life style and have found my calling. I still deal with pain but travel more miles and enjoy backpacking more now than I ever did. A guy named Hennessy started it all. And now I make most of my own gear and am down to a 12 lb fall early winter base pack
The Sluggard's craving will be the death of him, for his hands refuse to work.
