I have always been a little interested in hammocks however I never really took the time to look into them. As a little kid I had a small white net hammock outside but didn't really use it a lot. Recently I've been getting into a lot more outdoor activity and been doing some research on different types of gear and what not for camping. That's when I stumbled onto the North American Clark hammock. I was blown away by the idea and over all design of that tent. So I started doing more research on hammocks and decided I wanted to build one. Almost every time I searched for DIY info I was sent here and after lurking for a bit I decided to join.
    (I ramble a little. lol)
I have a trip planned in a few months to go on a 40mile backpacking trip in Colorado and would love to take a hammock with me. In a week or two I'm going on a weekend camp and gonna try to put together a trial to take with me to see if I actually like hangin!

    Me, TheCityFish

I got my hammock senior year of high school, right before I got my Eagle. I was thinking about getting a regular tent, but I wanted something that I could set up faster. Then I went to college and I only slept in my hammock once. Now I just got kicked out of college and spring is coming along, so I want to try it out again.

I just ordered HH Deep Jungle XL. I am planning X country trips on my klr650 and weight, small footprint (both hanging and packed), coolness (both temp and being"cool") and ability to cover bike and me were deciding factors.

I tend to hike/camp alone or with a friend. I'd never considered a hammock before I stumbled across this video a while back - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwzZTeAE3yc

That video led me to Shug's videos and eventually this forum.

I also injured my back in high school lifting weights without the proper knowledge. My back wakes me up if I roll onto my sides at night, so I've had to force myself to become a back sleeper. Another bonus for hammocks!

Those factors along with the versatility hammocks provide have sold me on the subject. I recently obtained my Switchback 1.9 DL from Opie and I can't wait to attend one of the HF hangs.

My last trip to Yellowstone. We went up the Lamar to Miller creek and over into the Hoodoos. I just did not sleep great on the ground, even with a Self inflating mat. I brought a smal Byer I was able to supplement my sleep with during daylight hours, and that saved the day. I started research that led me to here eventually.

Being an avid You Tuber, AND an outdoorsman, it was only a matter of time before I came upon Shugs videos. Frankly, until then, I had never even seen a camping hammock. And finally, after almost 2 years of poking about and researching, I finally ordered my own Blackbird. I still have not seen another hammoch hanger in southern Oklahoma yet. So...I might be the FIRST!

I'm a gear junkie. I started out just wanting a hammock to take on Boundary Waters trips, but when I started accessorizing, playing with suspensions, etc.

    Totally hooked.

Oh, and sleeping in a hammock is way nicer than on the ground.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFm8Ofkponk If you can suffer through this video to about 2:30, you'll see the guy with the hammock relaxing in his rig. The other guy is still making stakes for his shelter and the third guy's tarp is still flat on the ground! That's what makes us hangers!
