    "What made you a "hanger"?"

Not sure I am yet. Just got my hammock, and have yet to sleep in it.
But I wanted to try it due to advanced age, sore old bones, back full of steel, and so on. I love to camp out, but just can't do sleeping on the ground anymore. Got to try something, find a way to keep camping out.
You can be wet and miserable, or you can choose to just be wet.

I had a desire to start going lighter in my backpacking. It's tough when you are looking at 50 in your rear view mirror and trying to keep up with the 17 year old scouts, so I'm looking for any advantage I can get. I also like the ability to camp away from the crowds with little impact to the woods.

I have been an avid day hiker and tent camper for a few years and I was searching YouTube for videos to get pointers on lightening my load.

I happen to come across Shug's videos and after watching his videos and lurking on the forum I took the plunge.

I Fly fish therefore I am a Bugslinger. I was looking for a more compact kit for kayaking and motorcycle touring. After some research and information gathering I decided on a hammock system. Specifically the DD Hammock which I can use as a bivy if unable to hang (above the treeline desert situations). Quick, dry, adaptable and comfortable perfect.

After many years without camping, my first night in a tent prompted research for "a better way". Hammocks forever - Yea!

My buddy (Tonka) kept telling me about his adventures and it sounded intriguing. He outfitted me for the 2nd Annual Hoosier Hang and we went! After hiking in and vegging for two days (I was on major pain meds for back issues) I decided It was worth another try. I have since weaned myself off the pain meds, lost a little bit of weight, and gone on two more hiking/hangin trips including the 3rd Hoosier Hang. I'm hooked! Red River Gorge a few weeks ago was over the top and looking forward to the next one!! Hammocks are great on my back. I should sleep in one every night.

    Tents are awful

I've been a camper since I was young. I've always camped in tents because that was how my parents did it. On a trip down to the Florida Keys a buddy had an extra hammock so I decided to give it a try. That was about 10 years ago and I haven't gone back to the tent since. I've always fumbled my way through different ways of rigging my hammock. Struggling with knots that have become impossible to untie, waking up on the ground, and occasionally getting rained on or freezing my butt off. All that changed when I found this forum. Now I've got an ENO Double Nest and I just made my first set of whoopie slings.

Every year for New Year's eve I camp on the spoil islands in the Indian River Lagoon here on the east coast of Central Florida. Every year I come back from the island wanting to figure out how to sleep in a hammock more often.

So, now I'm taking the plunge... After reading several threads on here on different ways to do it, I am going to attempt an indoor hang setup as a full-time bed replacement. Set-up starts tomorrow. I'll post a description and pictures if it goes well, and maybe if it goes horribly wrong as well. I weigh in at about 275, so if I can figure out a decent indoor hang, anybody can.

BTW, at the New Year's Island Party each year, me and the guy who introduced me to hammocks wake up refreshed and ready to go, where all the tent-sleepers wake up sore and grumpy.

I broke my back in a car accident and just cant handle the ground anymore. I love the hammock and wish I would have made the switch years ago when I was a Boy Scout.
