Question hammocks for ten girlscouts- need input

I volunteered to organize a hammock project for our group of about ten twelve year old girls. We're trying to keep the cost at about 20$ each

We'll be doing tablecloth gathered end hammocks all the same tan color. http://www.tableclothsfactory.com/ta...shes-s/132.htm

personalized with the 99¢ colored chair sashes http://www.tableclothsfactory.com/Ta...ashes-s/74.htm

I'm thinking the 60x126, but maybe 60x102 would be better, what do you guys think?the tallest girl is about five six.

I'm a little stumped about how to handle suspention. I have 500 ft of amsteel at 15¢/ft and don't mind making a bunch of whoopies, but I always use carabineers and the tree straps that came with my eno to my setup. Carabineers would put us way over budget and I want something as simple as we can do so that the girls (and adult leaders) don't get frustrated with them. Keep in mind that a group of preteen girls will focus their attention for upwards of three minutes before assuming they know it all.
I'm thinking I can get cheep webbing somewhere (link anyone?)and do short sections with a sewn loop on each end then toggle to whoopies that are perminantly fixed to the hammock?

I'm pretty new to hammocking(like not 100% sure how you use toggles), so talk to me like I'm clueless

So if I got these http://www.harborfreight.com/set-of-...aps-67386.html at 2$ per setup I wouldn't need to use much amsteel, but how to attach?

those straps are not that strong. i thought they would be great just have in truck, but buckles broke and straps frayed. just saying.

    Dear Clueless,

Just kidding! We were all clueless at some point and probably still are to some degree.

The cheapest way to work with straps is to sew a loop in one end. Wrap the strap around the tree and pass the plain end through the loop. Now put the toggle in the strap with a marlin spike hitch. (Check YouTube, AnimatedKnots.com, etc for details). Toggles can be made cheaply by cutting a 1/2" diameter wooden dowel into 3" long sections. I've also used 1/4" diameter knitting needles cut into 3" sections.

I'd suggest looking at strapworks.com for webbing. You could always use toggles with the whoopies instead of carabiners to connect the straps to the whoopies. Be careful about cargo straps as they are not designed to hold a load up but rather hold a load down. I'm sure there are others here who can explain this logic better.

Btw... I would skip the whole marlin spike thing and go with just mule tape strap suspension... fix the mule tape to the hammocks and tie to trees... simple.. these are 12 year olds.

If you make paracord ridgelines, they can get a consistent hang...

Good idea with ridge lines. I have a bunch of spectra from a parachute lineset that would work great for that.

Keep it simple... Yes I think i'm over thinking things.

Mule tape, I had never heard of the stuff. Looks great! That is wide enough to keep the trees Ok? We'll be on my land but want to teach them the leave no trace approach of course. What knot should I use that could be untied?
