I just don't understand why people always neglect them!? I use 2 for suspension, 2 for underquilt, and keep. 2 more for various uses.
Which kind of soft shackle did you make. Mine are hard to open and close?

Cinch buckles & webbing with dutch webbing clips here. The easy adjustment and setup is my main reason. Tried whoopies & toggles & tri rings& etc... this is just easier for me. One less thing to fiddle with& and possibly lose on the trail.

There seems to be a tremendous number of Dutch fans

I like the dutch buckle a lot...but I also really like the elephant trunk a lot. The elephant trunk is the same weight as the triangle cinch buckles yet has the convenience of a whoopie hook.

Look up Better Soft Shackles. They do not close up like the regular ones.

Very fast setup, lite, and adjustable.

I use toggles with the Marlin Spike Hitch. I just use a stick on the ground as the toggle, so weight doesn't come into play.

Webbing and ring buckles for my tablecloth hammock, whoopies and MSH to webbing on the other. I like both, ring buckles are easier for friends to understand and use, and whoopies pack smaller and lighter for me.
Hammocking, car camping, backpacking, kayaking, and mountain biking. Getting in touch with nature is getting expensive. Good thing I can DIY!
