I use the Dutch buckle. Light weight, easy to use and as RR mentioned the buckles have a small piece of shock cord to ensure the amsteel doesnt slide off.

I use warbonnets adj straps with Dutch clips for hammock, lightweight and all together, nothing to lose. Buddy bought dutches new cinch buckles, easier to use but heavier than what I have. I also use Dutch hook and tarp flyz for tarp ridgeline, again all one piece and nothing to lose. Use Dutch quilt hooks for my tarp pull outs, see my diy Chinook tarp to see how I use them. Pretty much all Dutch, now if he made the cinch buckles lighter then I would be all Dutch.
Tried whoopies, didn't like them, too many pieces to lose and leave on a tree.
Big fan of carabiners! Clips on to the tree strap to add a bit of weight to throw around the tree and then I just marlin spike it to the strap and then clip in my suspension for worry free hanging. I have used toggles before and I fell one time....that was too much for me.

If you compare the entire suspension systems used with each of these options listed, you come up with a difference of approx 2.65oz between lightest and heaviest. (depending on exact components used, of course)
For me, that 2.65oz difference is not worth losing sleep over. I'd rather limit my worrying to bigger things.
I use many of these different options when I'm out playing with different setups.
When I'm out hiking and not fiddling with my gear, I choose cinch buckles and straps.
Simple setup, fast adjustment, easy teardown.
I have nearly used all of these. Now, as Papa Smurf mentioned, I tend not to concern myself to much about it. That said, I still use my Dutch Buckles, triangle buckles and elephant trunks (among others). Its a whatever strikes my fancy or is already set up on the hammock sort of thing!

A variety. Dutch buckles, elephant trunks, warbonnet straps.
I think my favorite is the Dutch Whoopie Hook, though. I like easily keeping the suspension separate from the hammock and just needing a continuous loop on each hammock. Works well for me.

I do not use hardware when connecting my tree straps to amsteel a nice larks head does it perfectly. I use whoopie hooks so I will wrap it around the tree then thread the strap into itself. It works quite well.

I camp in bear country and I am a bear Burrito.
I use a mini 'biner, at 0.25 oz/~7.1 grams each.
My reason? I use them also to attach my Camelbak to my pack so that I can have an ultralight day hike set-up if I choose to base camp or if I have to trail run to the nearest civilization area in case of emergency with an hiking partner (this has happened before).
The reason I went from tree straps and rings to whoopies and straps is not due to the weight savings (not enough to make a difference to me) but rather because of the strap length. With the way I was attaching my shelter system to my pack, I had to loop up quite a bit of excess strapping and tuck it under the straps that hold the shelter system in place (I use my suspension straps for this). With whoopies, that excess strapping was cut in half, making for fewer things that could go wrong.

Soft shackle- light, compressible, cheap, handmade, lots of uses, think each weighs 2 grams?
I just don't understand why people always neglect them!? I use 2 for suspension, 2 for underquilt, and keep. 2 more for various uses.
