For me, some 30 years ago, camping meant make what you need, take what you make. I remember my first pack. Wooden slats and burlap sack. Sure I only used it once but living in the rough was part of the appeal of backpacking.

I made my own wood burning coffee can stove, learned how to pack efficiently, light, and stay organized with sacks I made. Shelter was often just a sheet of plastic to block the wind.

The DIY forum has brought back a lot of those memories. I just finished my first DIY hammock. Next will be UCRs. These along with my pepsi can stove and some home made dehydrated - 'freezer bag' meals, I'll be set for a trip to some KY mountains in two weeks.

Thanks to everyone here!!
