Pack doesn't weigh alot when its unloaded of gear,,so i normally clip to end of hammock. I keep it close to me with miniscule stuff in it,,,Summertime,,same same,,don't weight much even then. I figure ground critters might get into it on the ground,,and if on the tree, bugs, ants, or even critters sniffin it out a bit. So it goes on the hammock.

Thanks again for the quick replies, this is some good feedback. I will probably try putting it at the end of my hammock and hanging it on the ridgeline first, then if I don't like the way it feels do the garbage bag method.
I put my rain cover on my pack if I'm expecting rain overnight. Either way I leave the pack under my hammock just in case there's something I need to get to or whatever. Usually everything I need is kept with me in the hammock except for water. I leave my water just sitting next to my pack.
usually a paracord tree strap with a toggle like mentioned before during the day if its good weather. it does make for much easier to access to the pack. under the hammock on my pack cover at night so everything is in easy reach.
Usually, I wrap my stuff inside my poncho and store it on the ground underneath my hammock. Sometimes, if the ground is wet, I'll hang things from both the foot and head end of the hammock. When I do this, I try to balance out the weight between the two spots. I've tried hanging my backpack on a tree, but it sometimes gets bugs inside, usually ants. Not sure how other hikers get away with hanging backpacks on a tree, but a lot of people do it.
I put my pack in a trash bag under my Hammock. Everything except my food goes under the tarp. Most of the time it rains in Florida.

My pack is completely empty at the end of the day. Food and toiletries are bear bagged, extra clothes are in a stuff sack to make my pillow, cooking gear and water on a rock. So, if it's cold, I put it under my feet for extra insulation and if not, I put it under my pack cover and hang it from a near by tree, upside down and open so critters can travel freely without the need to chew a hole for access.

I've only been out backpacking once, but I just tossed my bag and everything else into my pack cover and put it on the ground under me. Seemed the simplest solution and allowed me to reach whatever I needed from the hammock.
I'm thinking about making a pack cover/camp chair/gear hammock/thing.
I think the real question is how to keep the spiders out of your shoes. We went once late this summer and there was a king daddy wolf spider about the size of a taruntala that got in some of our stuff and bout gave us a heart attack. I always try to cover up my boots and give them a good shake. I couldn't bare the thought of sticking my foot in there with one of the furry things.
