    Backpacking and Hammocks

I'm just going to jump in and ask. Where do you store your backpacking gear when you are hammock camping Don't worry about the bear bag, that is in a tree somewhere a ways away. The options that I've gleaned so far are.
    1. Hung on the suspension at one end of your hammock.
    2. Wrapped up in a garbage bag under your hammock.
    3. In a shug video he just had it hanging from it's own webbing on one of the trees he was hanging from.
    4. Just under their hammock.
    5. In it's own little hammock. Hanging just under you or does it have it's own little tarp too?

At this point it hopefully doesn't weigh a whole lot (food up a tree, sleeping gear all set out) mostly some clothes, fishing gear if your into it, rain gear, a jacket or two. Could you hang your backpack on your ridgeline or would it weigh too much and interfere with the way you lay, or would it be bulky and take up too much room. What if you stuffed a bunch of your gear in peak bags first? (not that I really wan't to repack my whole backpack every day) Anyway The ridgeline thing, thought I could make a little sling (yes like a mini hammock) for the backpack and shove it down by my feet. (a hammock within a hammock, been watching too much inception). Is is plausible? Does anyone do it?

I have a 7x5 lightweight tarp from Wal Mart that I put under my hammock and all my gear goes on that.

I always hang my pack on a tree branch - keeps it dry and clean. It makes it easy to get things in and out while in camp instead of bending over and kneeling on the ground all the time.

I eventually put it on the ground while I'm sleeping so I can just reach out and everything is within an arms reach. I just set it on a trash bag or plastic bag liner.

Of course if it's raining I won't hang it on a tree.

I usually just put my backpack on the ground next to my hammock so I can reach it.

However I've been thinking about using a pack cover I usually carry, as a gear hammock. As soon as I find a good way to suspend it using minimal extras.

If no rain expected, hanging off the suspension at the tree with all gear inside pack inside the pack liner. If rain is expected, directly under the hammock on top of a small ground sheet I bring.

I have a piece of paracord about 6' long... With loops on both ends, wrap it around the tree when I get to camp use the carabiner on the grab handle of the pack to clamp it up... It hangs there while I set up camp... It hangs there all night if its dry... If the weather turns south it will go under the pack laying on a large piece of plastic... Or if a real hum dinger of a storm comes in it gets thrown in the hammock or hung off the ridgeline whichever is more comfortable...

You forgot about us short folks! I just toss my pack to the foot of my hammock and there it can stay for the night. At 5'2" (I lie to get that tall) I have enough room in my hammock to keep most of my gear except the obvious dirty boots and food.

Truth be told I would like to have the backpack in the hammock with me, but I'm not quite that short Perhaps I could tie the end closest to me to the ridgeline and just let the other end rest on the hammock materiel. Maybe if I turned it sideways it would sort of act like a spreader bar?

That is the sort of thing I am interested in. Obviously for different hammocks the answer could be different. But in general is ridgeline tight enough to support the backpack?
