There is always discussion as to the use of a pillow vs. a stuff sack. I have tried the stuff sack way, and it just doesn't work for me. I have also tried lots of pillows: BIG PILLOWS, little pillows, inflatable pillows, down pillows, and synthetic pillows. Could never find the 'baby bear' of pillows, though...too much under the head and not enough support for the neck...too much under the neck and none under the head....you get the picture.
Through a series of unrelated events, I have discovered baby bear's pillow!
Actually, in the first version it was a combination of 2 pillows; a neck bolster that I already had, and a small down pillow I made to check the 'down-proofness' of some fabric. Approx. dimensions are 7 x 14" for the neck bolster and 7 x 11" for the down pillow. Weight is 2.8 oz.
I liked it, and thought I was on to something, but using the buttonhole system left the pillows too far apart to be totally comfortable, I thought.
Version 2.0 is a single pillow with two separate compartments.
What makes this work is that in the head pillow, I use just down so it compresses nicely. In the neck bolster, though, I use a mix of down and shredded foam filling. This gives it more 'body' and support.
v2.0 was good, but needed a little more support in the neck bolster. So here I go ripping and re-sewing. v2.1 had TOO much in the neck bolster, so here I go ripping and re-sewing. v2.2 seems to be just right.
Finished weight is 3.2 oz.
